McDonald's, others, holding the tomatoes

With fears of salmonella food poisoning linked to the hospitalization of almost two dozen people, McDonald's, along with Taco Bell and Chipotle have stopped serving raw tomatoes at their restaurants.

According to an AP report, an FDA spokesperson has stated that the outbreak has been linked to, "
certain varieties of raw tomatoes including red plum, red Roma and red round."

The reaction hasn't been limited to restaurants, grocery stores such as Winn Dixie, Giant Eagle, and Ralph's have all pulled the suspected tomatoes off of their shelves.

Jack in the Box stopped serving them here but In-N-Out still was as of Friday. I thought that was kind of bizarre.

Aren't tomatoes poisonous anyway?

No salsa at Chipotle?! That is insane! People need to stop freaking out about things. When spinach was linked to salmonella, people just stopped eating spinach altogether, but I did, and I was fine. If you wash your food properly, you shouldn't get sick.

@clarity sage - that's actually not true ALWAYS. Sometimes you cannot wash the salmonella/whatever off the fruit/vegetable because of the porous nature of vegetables/fruits. Anyway, why risk it? Who the hell wants salmonella?
